Kaila Devi Chaitra Mela
The Kaila Devi Chaitra Mela is one of the most famous and massive fairs in Rajasthan. It begins on the 12th day of Chaitra Badi and continues for a whole fortnight (fifteen days), bringing the Kaila Devi Dham and the entire surrounding region alive with vibrant colors and devotional fervor. Around 20 lakh (two million) devotees from various communities across the country come to this fair to seek the blessings of Maa Kaila Devi. Many devotees undertake long and arduous journeys on foot to reach here, often while fasting. The most distinctive and incredible sight of this fair is the "Kanak-Dandoti", where devotees travel to the temple by prostrating themselves on the ground at regular intervals along the way, sometimes starting from their homes miles away. This fair is not just a confluence of faith but also a major center for folk culture and trade. It showcases the excellent craftsmanship of numerous artisans, including handcrafted wood, lacquer, and metal products, tribal headgear, silver jewelry, mirror work, and hand-woven and embroidered textiles. Additionally, cultural performances and spectacular wrestling displays (dangals) by renowned wrestlers are among the fair"s main attractions.
